Bram van Velde
Bram van Velde, together with his brother Geer, grew up in abject poverty. The van Velde family lived a life of vagrants and had just enough money to eat. How special that both Bram and Geer van Velde gained great fame as a self-taught artist, both nationally and internationally. Bram settled in Paris in the 1920s and was mainly inspired by Matisse.

With exhibitions in Paris, Germany and America, he established himself as one of the greatest Dutch modern artists of the 20th century.

His work is characterized by a lyrical abstraction, in which figurative elements are no longer present, in contrast to, for example, the ideas of the Cobra.
